October Reads:
Welcome readers to a new reading month! I hope you are looking forward to chipping away at your TBR like I am. This month, my reading goal will be to read these books in highest to lowest priority on my TBR. It is as follows:
- Til Death Do US Bard (ARC read thanks to NetGalley)
- Bonesmith special edition from FairyLoot
- The Folcroft Ghosts by Darcy Coates; Standard edition
- The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Novella from B&N Classics editions
Brief Summaries of each book:
Til Death Do Us Bard is a "cozy fantasy read" that is about a Bard and his lover (Logan) who must work together to save their marriage when Pie (Bard) is being forced to steal an artifact against his will. The story is from Logan's point of view as he begins his journey post-retirement to save his husband - and hopefully his marriage. The book's official publication date is 11-21-23. Not sure if there will be a sequel or not.
Bonesmith is about Wren, a Valkyr in training who is desperate to prove her worth to her house (and more importantly, her family) after she fails her qualifying trial due to sabotage. She is sent to the Border wall for patrol. There, she learns the House of Gold Prince has been kidnapped. Wren will travel beyond the wall to help rescue the prince - and learn exactly who orchestrated the kidnapping alongside a House of Iron rival. This will be a duology book series with the second book expected to be released in early 2024.
The Folcroft Ghosts was written by Darcy Coates back in 2017. It is a story about family secrets that has haunted a family for generations. It is set primarily at Tara and Kyle's grandparents residence. There, the children must uncover what the secret is and how best to resolve it. It is a short read (less than 200 pages) for the lovers of all things spooky and is a standalone story.
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a novella (in a collection of short stories) included in the B&N Classics series written by Robert Louis Stevenson. It is an early SciFi short story written in 1886 decades after Frankenstein was published. It is a SciFi classic that is perfect for spooky season about the good and bad that exists within us all. This is a standalone story.
